Wow it's been a while since I last blogged! Thought I was a believer! LOL! Sorry but this one will have to be a short one today!

A lot has happend in the last few months! The holidays were wonderful to us. We really enjoyed spending time with our family and together! Lots of good food, news, and gifts! But the best gift of all will come May 17, 2010! We are expecting our first child! A GIRL!!! A sweet, cute, sassy lil thing named Payton Makenna Poling! We can not wait for this moment and wishes it were tomorrow! The pregnancy has been good, lots of being sick but good. I wouldn't change it for the world!

When I get more free time and the rest of our news today I will post again later! Hope everyone is having a wonderful New Year so far and we love you all!

Life as of Late

Well I thought I better blog about something since I havent in a while. Im constantly reading posts from my wonderful and dear friend Maggie...her blogs can make you laugh and cry at the same time and let me just say...when your done, you feel so much better. Then there is and old high school friend of mine, who for the past month has been telling her heart disease story and educating everyone on heart awareness. I never knew just exactly how much she has gone through the past couple of years and my hurt goes out to her. I think she is a fantastic woman and mother. With all that said...ready for an update from me?

My husband started back at his old job with Citi but is now working in the Mortgage division. He is super excited and I am too. Now we have better insurance, and more money in our pockets. I am also trying to find a new job. I have applied at a couple of places and I am now just waiting to hear back. Im just not happy anymore where I am. And it is really hard to work for family.

We are still trying for that baby, we just started on some fertility meds, so hopefully something will happen soon. I just pray it will, and that I dont end up being like the OCTUPLET Lady.

My dad is doing okay. He goes April 1st to have another biopsy done to see how everything is going, and then on April 15th we will all be in Temple for his surgery. This is definetly gonna be a life changing experience for him. It's hard to prepare for something that you have no idea how it's gonna turn out. It's been extremely hard on my mom. But she is the strongest woman I know. And I have complete faith that God is gonna pull my Dad through.

Our Wonderful Healthcare System

This is a blog not from me, but from my husband. I am so truly lucky to have such a wonderful, compassionate, loving husband. I thought it was worth sharing his opinion with everyone. So here goes:

Today has been a very disappointing day for me. Why, you ask? Because I found out that my health insurance through United Healthcare is completely biased and left wing supportive.I arrived at my job in good spirits today. I got online to check what fertility treatments my health insurance would cover (my wife and I are trying to have children), and once I got logged in, the clouds came, and my world went dark. You see, United Healthcare doesn’t cover any type of fertility treatment at all. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

And here’s the part that disturbed me the most…you find out what is covered, or not covered, under a tab labeled “Family Planning”. The things that are covered, however, have nothing to do with family planning at all, would be better suited under a tab labeled “Family Prevention”. Here is a list of items that are covered:
Voluntary Sterilization – Covered (Preventive Procedure)
Abortion – Covered (Preventive Procedure)
Fetal Reduction Surgery – Covered (Preventive Procedure)
Health Services for Non-surgical or Drug-induced Pregnancy Termination – Covered (Preventive Procedure)

As you can see, everything that is covered is for the Prevention of pregnancy and birth. This is blatant discrimination against all of us who hold Christian and Conservative values. It is a slap in the face by a liberal left that has control over way too many of the things that we need. United Healthcare would rather pay 80% of the cost associated with killing an unborn infant, than they would pay to assist in the creation of life. It is absolutely shameful.I placed a call to United Healthcare and asked them why fertility treatments were not covered in any fashion, and I was given a two part answer:
1. Fertility treatments are not deemed medically necessary, and
2. There is not enough proof, medically, that they actually assist in pregnancy I asked them if they were kidding, and was simply told “no”.

So I asked a few questions of my own:

Q: When has a vasectomy ever been considered “medically necessary”, after all, this is covered under voluntary sterilization?
A: “I don’t have any statistics to show that.”

Q: What percentage of abortions are actually considered “medically necessary”?
A: “I don’t have those kind of statistics in front of me either.”

***(By the way, according to Central Illinois Right To Life, only 3% of abortions are performed due to the mother’s health problems. That means 97% of abortions performed are done so as a matter of choice, or birth control, yet all of them are covered by United Healthcare)

Q: How many non-surgical or drug-induced pregnancy terminations are considered “medically necessary”?
A: “Again, sir, I do not have those statistics in front of me.”

As you can see, United Healthcare couldn’t back up why they cover only preventative measures. This should be an illegal practice, due to the fact that it is obviously discriminatory. The average cost of an abortion in the United States ranges from $370 to $450.

According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute (Planned Parenthood), there were almost 1.3 million abortions in the U.S. last year. Even on the low end of the cost spectrum, if United Healthcare is covering 80% of each case, they still covered $481,000,000. That’s half a billion dollars…spent primarily on murder. But they refuse to cover fertility treatments at all. They should have a billboard ad that reads:“United Healthcare. We kill them so you don’t have to.”To sum everything up, I can only think of one word to describe what I feel. That word is disgust. Something needs to be done about this idiocy. At the least, if they are going to cover all of the preventative measures of birth, they should also be required to cover measures that can help assist in birth.

BUSINESS IS TAKING OFF

Im so excited so I wanted to share my good news today with everyone. So as some of you know I started a business called Sassy Buttons making picture frames and magnets. Well I have been looking into some different craft malls to take my stuff to and have it displayed. This past weekend I met a wonderful lady who is a dealer at an antique craft mall. We started talking about the different things she makes so I started asking her questions and started telling her about my business and before the end of conversation she decided she wants be to bring some stuff to her and show her what I do. This lady makes wonderful wall signs and so that night I had to go meet her to pick up a couple that I was having made. So I showed her a few of my things and she loved them and said she was going to get back with me. This was Saturday, on Sunday she called me and said that she needs me to this coming up weekend to bring my stuff back out to the antique mall and show a couple of the vendors out there that she was telling about me.

They have already called and want me to make sure to bring certain samples of things that they are looking into buying in bulk. I am so incredibly excited about this. I love making these things and I am so excited to get it off the ground. Wish me luck this Saturday as I meet with everyone and show them what I have.

HERE WE GO 2009

Well now that it's 2009 I thought I would update my blog. I added some slideshow's for everyone to enjoy. Hopefully that will make a few people smile.

First off I will give everyone a quick update on my Dad. He had his first round of Chemo last Tuesday and it went ok. He got extremely sick that night and was really week the day after but as the week progressed he started feeling better. He will have treatments every 21 days so please continue to keep him in your prayers. And thank you to everyone who has been doing this already. It's the most important thing that we all need right now.

Second as my WONDERFUL friend Maggie has done...this will be my accountability site for my New Year's Resolution.

1. I started back on Monday at my Weight Watchers Meetings and I am extremely excited about getting in shape and HEALTHY.

2. We are looking into selling our house and moving into the neighborhood where my parents are. It's definetly closer to them and closer to Billy's grandparents house which is what we want to be.

3. We are hoping that now that it's the January and I can have the test's done that I need done...that we can possibly be able to have a BABY. Which is the one thing Billy and I want right now.

If we can get these 3 things done...I will be doing good. I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's. I am going to try and do better at this blogging thing it's a big STRESS reliever when I let everything out.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR

I know that I havent posted in a while so I thought I would give a lil update. It's gonna be short cause I dont have much time today.

First of all woo hoo it's Christmas. I am so glad to be spending it with my family. I cant wait for Christmas morning not because I want gifts but I love giving them and I cant wait to see everyone's faces when they open them up. My biggest Christmas present this year is something for me and Billy that we bought together. Its a Canon 30D camera. I love it. We bought it from our photographer, its the one he used in our wedding. So you can imagine its wonderful. Look out 2009 for pictures from Shannon.

Second, my dad starts Chemo on the 30th of December. Im really glad that I have a week off for Christmas vacation so I can be there with him and help my mom out. She has been a basket case the past two weeks with everything going on plus adding in Christmas...you can only imagine. So 3 months of Chemo is starting. I will keep everyone posted as to what is going on.

So here is an update on my dad. For those of you just now finding out and for those of you who know a little of what is going on we found out that my dad has mesothelioma (cancer). Such a hard thing to hear. The cancer is on his chest wall between his lungs. We found out the day before Thanksgiving what steps he is now gonna have to take.

First off he is gonna have to have Chemo for a period of four months. To try and keep it from spreading anywhere else. This type of cancer spreads fast and wide. So they are hoping to contain it to where it is and possible shrink it. After those 4 months are over, he will have to have a series of tests done to make sure that he is strong enough for this next step.

Second he will have to have surgery. During this they will remove 1-2 ribs from his right side and possibly even his right lung. They wont know for sure until they get in there. They cant take the risk of leaving it in there and not knowing if the cancer cells touched any of it in any way. So they must remove it all in case it did. They said that he will still be ok and will function fine without one of his lungs.

Lastly they will have to do more radiation after the surgery just as back up so to speak. This is probably going to be the hardest step of it all. Cause this will actually be the step that we cause the hair loss, the burning, the sick step is what I call it.

Physically if you look at my dad you would think nothing is wrong. Until you actually start watching him. He has trouble being up on his feet for several hours, he gets shortness of breath, tired very easy, his blood pressure rises and he just stops. Mentally is the hardest part of it all right now. My dad is a wonderful man. He is the strongest man I know and to see the strongest man I know break down...KILLS ME.

The one thing that all this has brought on is it has made our family really close this past couple of weeks. Which is what we all needed. We are all gonna get through this together. He is gonna get through this. And he will be a living testimony for years to come. We kidd him telling him that they are gonna make a Lifetime Movie out of this. That's all I have for now. OK so I went from one extreme to another today. I woke up extremely happy and ready for my day. Got to work and it's been a good day so far. I knew that I would be getting some sort of news today, but there was no way to really prepare for it.

My dad has been having a lot of health problems lately. He has been getting sick frequently and not knowing why. He has had test after test and finally was able to come to a conclusion. My dad found out today that he has cancer. Not really any way to prepare for that you know. We knew he would find out the results today, we knew it could be good or bad. But how do you really prepare for BAD???

All I can do is pray and be there for my dad right now. I wish I could take away the pain he has been having and going through non stop for the past couple of months but I cant. It makes me question things and life. WHY???? I ask for prayers right now. Cause until he meets with a specialist and then they can take the next step that is all we can do. I do not think they are gonna know anything until after the holidays which really puts a mood on things.

We are gonna try and make this the best holiday's that our family can have. Hold on to those that you love, cherish every minute possible that you have with them. You never know when it will be your last or theirs. I know I will.

I had a blast taking Christmas Pictures last night with my hubby. What was supposed to be only Christmas pictures turned into taking a lot of posed pictures, which were great. We got some really good ones.

Novemeber 30th we will be celebrating Billy's 32nd Birthday. Oh how excited he is. LOL

I deeply love this man. I am so excited about our first official Thanksgiving and Christmas Day's together. It will be so wonderful. I am hoping to get Christmas decorations up this weekend. Yes I know its a week early but since we will be gone for Thanksgiving weekend I wont be able to get it done that weekend. So I will be doing it early. Who cares anyway atleast we are in the Christmas mood. I am so excited about all the decorations. Yikes...gotta get that tree this weekend. I will post pictures as soon as I get it all done.

Well my life as of late...

~I have for the past week not did so good on my WW but I set a goal for myself this weekend and I am determined to make that goal.

~I did get my house all clean this weekend. Thank goodness...

~I am so ready for the holidays. I love spending time with family and friends.

~I am completely ready for the cold weather to get here, there is just something about putting on sweaters and coats and scarfs that I love. I cant wait to cuddle on the couch with my hubby in front of our fireplace...how romantic is that???

~I am half way through my list of people to buy for for Christmas...whew...21 family members to buy for and who know's how many others that I will send treats too!

~I think we finally have everything we need to decorate our house for Christmas...except for the tree which will come in the next 2 weeks.
